Last week we said our goodbyes to our intern Mareike – and have now welcomed Sofie, who will take her place in supporting the au pairs this winter-spring.
Here is what Mareike had to say about her internship with Smartaupairs:
In July 2013, I started working at Smartaupairs UK as the new Au Pair Support intern. From the very first day my internship was a great learning experience as all team members took the time to explain “why“ and “how“ to me. Being part of a culturally diversified team and working with so many people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds on a daily basis has been the highlight of my internship. I highly appreciated the opportunity to work independently from the early onset as it helped me to improve my organizational skills as well as my time management and gave me more self-confidence. I consider my time at Smartaupairs as a significant contributor to my education – I gained practical experience outside of the university setting and broadened my understanding of the business world in general. Therefore, I would like to thank my colleagues Tuuli, Chloe and Emma for 6 months of instructive and invaluable experience.
Mareike has now returned to her studies in Germany and has another internship lined up for later on in the year. We wish her all the very best of luck!
Our new intern, Sofie has actually been an au pair with our of our host families in the past, and now – she is completing her internship as part of her studies. She describes her au pair placement as ‘a life changing period’ and ‘one of the best things I have ever done’.
Sofie is from Sweden and has studied English for 12 years. She also has a basic command of German. Sofie studies Media and Communication back home in Sweden, focusing on Organisational Communication. In her free time she loves to explore new things such as new places and meeting new people. Sofie is also a keen runner and likes attending races. During her intern placement at Smartaupairs, Sofie expects to build on her academic knowledge with practical experience. She is considering studying or working abroad again in the future, perhaps in another English speaking country.
